Catie’s mom claims her daughter was wrongfully portrayed on the show, and fans are now questioning just how much of 90 Day Fiancé season 12 was edited for drama.
According to Catie’s mother, reality TV did what reality TV always does, took the messiest parts of her daughter’s life and exaggerated them for entertainment.
On the show, Catie came across as an alcoholic, a sex addicted party girl who spent her days drinking and her weekends making out with random men she met in bars, which made viewers feel bad for her British fiancé Josh, who seemed like a stable, family oriented guy getting ready to marry the wrong person. TLC doubled down by portraying Catie as unemployed, homeless, and somehow still sponsoring Josh on a K1 visa, which made her look irresponsible and chaotic.
But according to Catie’s mom, that version of her daughter is far from the truth. In a video Catie posted reacting to memes and comments on Twitter, her mom jumped in to defend her, saying fans were judging the low hanging fruit, the exact image TLC wanted them to see. Catie clarified that she was never homeless, she was living a nomad lifestyle while working remotely and traveling abroad. In her caption, she explained, “I saved a ton of money by pet sitting in exchange for free accommodation while working remotely and keeping my things in a storage unit,” and her mom added that Catie spent nearly three years touring Europe this way, calling it a bold and valuable life experience, not a sign of instability.
